Respecting Your Lion

18 May

Respecting Your Lion…

The Hebrew Scriptures and New Testament, describe God as a lion. A lion is strong, wild and ferocious. You don’t mess around with it or try to make it adjust to your way. You adjust your way around it.

Every true house of worship is a Lion’s House. It houses the presence of God. Much of religion is lion-less. Too many churches are without any sign of the lion, the ferociously real presence of God.

They’ve got the lion’s trail – they know where he once was and what he once did. But He’s long gone. A lion isn’t predictable, but much of our religion is. A lion isn’t systematic, but much of our theology is. A lion isn’t dull, but much of our services are.

Everything functions safely. There’s no roar left. If you want God to be real in your life then let Him have His way and not yours. Stop trying to conform Him around your life and yield your life to be conformed to His.

Break out the religiousness of your life, your systematic, predictable, and safe way of relating to God and encounter the God who is real, awesome, and un-tame-able.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will. … Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Romans 12:2

Let God be God in your life today. Don’t bend His Word to fit into your life – but let your life be conformed and changed to His Word and presence.

Walk daily with God at your side!

The Bread You Don’t Have

17 May

The Bread You Don’t Have…

There’s something strange in the Lord’s Prayer: “Give us this day our daily bread.” The Lord is telling us to pray for bread every day. What’s strange about it is that most likely you already have bread.

So if you’re keeping your bread, and you already have it, then how can you pray “Give us this day our daily bread?” Most believers ignore this contradiction.

But the contradiction is everything. If you have bread in your house and yet if God tells you to ask Him for bread everyday, what does it mean?

It means that every day you have to start out by acknowledging that all the bread you have even though you bought it, you don’t really own it.

Everything you have in this life, you don’t own. It’s all God’s. Whether you’re rich or poor, you’re still told to pray that prayer and ask God for your bread each day.

Let go of all you own today, and all your burdens with it. And when you wake up tomorrow morning, receive all your blessings afresh and new from God… along with your daily bread.

Give us today our daily bread. Matthew 6:11

Today, seek to receive everything as a blessing in your life as new – as if receiving it for the first time.

Walk daily with God at your side!

When Titles Change

When Titles Change…

Bible publishers are especially careful to guard against typographical errors, but occasionally, errors have slipped through. The ‘Printers’ Bible,’ so named because the word ‘princes’ is rendered ‘printers.’ The result in Psalm 119, David says, ‘Printers have persecuted me without cause.’ Worse than this is the so-called ‘Wicked Bible.’

The word ‘not’ was accidentally omitted from the seventh commandment; the result, ‘Thou shalt commit adultery,’ instead of ‘Thou shalt not commit adultery.’ Even one small change of God’s Word can turn something holy into something wicked.

Your responsibility too is great. God has given you His word. Read it. Treasure it. Receive it. Believe it. Hold to it. Proclaim it. Do it. Don’t change it. Don’t mold it to match your life. Don’t soften it to match your ideas, your ways, your actions.

If you change it, even by one letter, you turn something holy into something wicked. Instead of changing the word to meet your life, change your life to match the Word, turning something wicked into something holy. Take the word as it is, let it change your life; anything else… and you end up with a ‘Wicked Bible.’

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15

As you read the Word of God today, let it really shine and soak into your heart, into an area of your life you know has to be changed.

The Mark Of An Ox

15 May

The Mark Of An Ox…

It is written in Proverbs that when the ox is in the stall, there’s a mess, but much increase comes by the strength of the ox. You say, “I don’t have an ox, nor do I have a stall.” So, what does it have to do with me?’

Everything. The principle is: what has life and is alive, will produce a mess. But much good will come of it. Let’s apply it to ‘marriage,’ and translate the ox-in-the-stall principle this way: ‘Where there’s marriage, the house will be messy, but much increase comes from marriage.’

Marriage is a living thing – messy but alive. So if you want a living marriage you have to deal with messes. Real marriage brings out things: two living, breathing, snoring, clothes-dropping people together in one stall. Want an easy, no-mess, no-problems-to-deal-with marriage?

Fine, just don’t involve another person. You want the blessings of marriage? Then you’ll have to accept the messes. But it’s worth it. For with a living marriage, comes much blessing. So joyfully embrace your ox, and the mess he or she makes. For when the ox is in the stall, there is much increase.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Let it be your prayer today. Today make it a special mission to especially love those people God has put in your stall, and be a blessing and be blessed.

I Know The Plans

13 May

I Know The Plans…

Okay, you feel you have to plan your life. Well, it’s good to plan, if you’re planning to do God’s will. But, if you believe that your life is in your hands, and if you don’t worry about it, no one else will… consider this, did you plan this life in the first place?

When you sat in your mother’s womb, how many of you had a little planner book? You didn’t plan your life because it’s not your life. It was given as a gift from God.

Life is important, because it’s from God. And it does have a plan. But you don’t come up with it. It is written in the Psalms that when you were still in your mother’s womb, God had a book with all your days in them, before any had come.

So, relax… stop worrying. Your life isn’t your life. It’s God’s life. It’s not your worry. It’s His. And He’s got the plan. Stop worrying, and give it all to Him today.

Put your plans on hold, and seek His plan, for the day, the week, the month, the year, your life. You’ve got your plan. He’s got His. And His are better!

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

Make it your plan today to relax and spend time in the joy of God’s presence – let God accomplish the good plans He has for your life.

A Guide To The Baruchas

12 May

A Guide To The Baruchas…

In the 1960s, ‘Star Trek,’ a science-fiction series came on television. One of the most famous lines from Star Trek was the Vulcan greeting. Mr. Spock would lift his right hand, part two fingers to the right, and two to the left and say, ‘Live long and prosper.’

This is an Aaronic blessing going all the way back to Moses. Mr. Spock, Leonard Nimoy, was Jewish, and as a boy in a synagogue, he experienced a descendant of Aaron giving the Aaronic blessing. When he became Mr. Spock, he translated the ancient Aaronic Blessing into the Vulcan greeting.

Now, people of all nations can witness a Jewish man giving a condensed version of the Aaronic Blessing (Numbers 6:24-26). Thus, we see that from the Tabernacle in Jerusalem to outer space, the Jewish people exist to give and be a blessing to the world.

If you are a child of Israel, in Jesus, you too exist to give and be a blessing. So no matter where you are in life, a desert wilderness or somewhere in outer space, fulfill your calling today; bless and be a blessing. That is your prime directive, your mission on the blue planet.

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace. Numbers 6:24-26

You’ve been blessed by God. Today seek to give the blessing of your love, your joy, your hope, your faith, in some way – to everyone you come in contact with.

Walk daily with God at your side!

Answering The Wrong Call

11 May

Answering The Wrong Call…

Hineni is the word that God’s people used to answer His call down through the ages. It means ‘Here I am!’ Jacob said it. The problem was, it wasn’t his call that he was answering.

His father was expecting his older brother Esau, and Jacob said, ‘Hineni!’ He was pretending to be Esau. Though his father unknowingly blessed him, Jacob would pay the price of his dishonesty for years.

His true blessing would only come after a wrestling match that ended with the Lord asking him, ‘What’s your name?’ This time he said the truth, ‘Jacob.’ By doing it, his name was changed to ‘Israel.’

A profound truth for your life is you can’t answer someone else’s calling. You’ll never find God’s perfect will for your life if you’re trying to be somebody else.

Hineni isn’t about trying to be anything other than who you are. Hineni simply means, ‘Here I am, as I am, with no pretense.’ You can’t answer the call of Esau. God has a better call with your name on it. Stop trying to answer a call or fulfill a role that isn’t you. You’ve got your own calling. Answer it.

He went to his father and said, “My father.”“Yes, my son,” he answered. “Who is it?” Jacob said to his father, “I am Esau your firstborn. I have done as you told me. Please sit up and eat some of my game, so that you may give me your blessing.” Genesis 27:18-19

Today, seek to please no one but God Himself. Seek to do all things for His eyes only. And simply be who you are in His presence.

Walk daily with God at your side!

Beggars, Princes, & Fairy Tales

9 May

Beggars, Princes, & Fairy Tales…

Of Decision In Proverbs 13 verse 4 it is written: “The soul of the sluggard desires and has nothing, but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.” In a land where food was often scarce, it speaks of abundance.

The soul which ends up abundant is the Hebrew word “Charootz.” It means not only diligent but decisive. It can be translated, “..the soul of the decisive shall be made fat.'”

The word of God is making a connection – abundance is linked to decisiveness. If you want abundance in God, you have to be decisive. When it came to your salvation, God wasn’t indecisive, but most decidedly decisive. When it came to dying for you, His love was decisive.

There’s only one way to receive it, and all the blessings He gives… decisively. The Lord says “Choose this day whom you will serve.” When it comes to the love of God, the gospel, His call on your life – be decisive.

Set your heart on that one direction you know you must go. Maybe you’ve never been decisive about anything. It’s a new day. Choose to be decisive and your life will become decisively blessed.

But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15

What decisions have you held off on making that you have to make? Make those decisions today, be decisive for God.

Walk daily with God at your side!

Get Into Your Chrysalas

8 May

Get Into Your Chrysalas…

There’s a beautiful little miracle in nature, that of the transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly. The caterpillar climbs a tree and hangs itself by a silk thread.

The creature dies as a caterpillar, as an earthbound creature. Its outside hardens. It becomes like a mummy, a shell, a sort of tomb. The shell is called the ‘chrysalis.’ It’s in this chrysalis that the worm-like creatures dies. It’s from this chrysalis, that a new creature, winged and beautiful emerges.

How do you change from an earthbound creature, into a heavenly one? The chrysalis is the place where you die to self, flesh, ego, reputation and selfish desires, where you surrender your will for God’s, where you let go and let God.

It’s a place of death to the old self – but really, it’s a place of life. For it’s from that place of your dying to self, out of that chrysalis, that the beautiful and heavenly being you were meant to be emerges.

Find your chrysalis today, that sacred place of dying, so you can live, be beautiful, spread your wings and soar in the heavenlies.

There’s a beautiful little miracle in nature, that of the transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly.

Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. John 12:24

Take a moment to think about what in your life still needs to be surrendered to God. Today, take a step forward and surrender in the new, to become that beautiful person you were created to be.

Manna

7 May

Manna…

Shakespeare wrote some of the most poetic verses in the English language. However, if you translate those passages into French, German or Russian, they lose their rhythm and poetic beauty.

This holds true for most of what the world calls the sacred writings. Most followers of Islamic, Hindu or Buddhist writings tend not to be in a hurry to see these writings translated.

Yet there’s one Book which stands alone in human history as the most translated of books, the Bible. No matter what language the Bible is translated into, it still retains its power, beauty, resonance, and its ability to touch the deepest part of man’s heart and change the darkest lives.

The Bible stands alone in human history as the most translatable Book because the Bible is the Word of God. It must go to all people. There are a few languages into which it hasn’t yet been translated, the language of your loved ones, co-workers, and unbelievers.

It’s your job to do this translation. Translate His love, joy, mercy, compassion, His presence, into a language they can understand. The next translation must come through you.

However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace. Acts 20:24

Seek to translate the Bible today for unsaved people – translate the Word into action and life.
