The Sarcophagus…
The Word of God tells us not to live in the flesh. The word for “the flesh” in the New Covenant Scriptures is the Greek “sarx.” From that word “sarx” we get the English word “sarcophagus.”
A sarcophagus was a stone coffin, often decorated, inside of which was the body of the deceased often it was decorated to look like a painted the statue of the deceased. That’s also what the “sarx” or flesh is – it’s a shell. It’s not the real person.
If you live in the flesh, the “sarx,” then it’s like living in a sarcophagus, you’re trapped in a shell, the shell of the ego, the shell of the body, the shell of self.
But God calls us out of the flesh, out of the sarx, out of the sarcophagus. And to do that you have to choose to live in the Spirit.
If you live by the Spirit. You’ll be free from the flesh, you’ll have the power to break out of lust, fear, depression, anger, bitterness, addiction, ego, the self.
But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15
Don’t be bound to the flesh today – even your own flesh – break out of it, out of the bondage, out of the sin, out of yourself – and live in the Spirit.
Walk daily with God at your side!
Love always,
Ed
