The Apple Tree

The Apple Tree…

In the Song of Solomon, the bride says of the bridegroom, “My beloved is an apple tree… I sat down under his shadow with great delight.”

In these words are deep mysteries. We’re the bride and Jesus is our Beloved. The tree of the cross, His death, is the tree of the Bridegroom’s love. And we, the bride are to delight in the beauty of His shadow.

The Psalms speak of abiding and taking refuge in the shadow of His wings. It was a day of darkness when Mary Magdalene went to the tomb.

But she wanted to dwell in the shadow of the Beloved. She would rather be with Him in death than with anyone else in life. Paul said, “I desire to share in the fellowship of His sufferings.”

Become so in love with Him that you would rather be in His shadow, than anywhere else. And delight yourself in the shadow of your Beloved. For the shadow of your Beloved is a refuge greater than any other in the world.

Your Beloved is an apple tree. Delight yourself in the presence and shadow of that tree.

For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. 2 Corinthians 1:5

Today, take the mystery of this verse in the Song of Solomon and spend time in the presence and delight of your Beloved.

Walk daily with God at your side!

Love always,

Ed
