The Night Creatures

14 Oct

The Night Creatures…

I had a friend whose mother had fallen away from the Lord, had ended up as a hostage in a police shoot out and by a miracle her life was spared.

Soon after that, my friend discovered that behind a photograph of his mother as a girl was hidden a drawing of a lamb about to be killed on the edge of a cliff just below a bird of prey. But a hand was reaching out to save the lamb – the hand of Jesus.

So in your life, there are always two pictures and two stories. The first picture is that of your life, your circumstances, your situation, as they appear to be.

But the second picture is the story of God and you, the hand of your Shepherd reaching out to His lamb, the love of God.

If you look behind what you see and feel, you’ll find the love of God, and the hand of your Shepherd reaching out to you, His lamb.

So no matter what it looks like or feels like in your life, remember, the real story of your life is the one that lies hidden inside the frame.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

Give thanks today that the Lord has come into your life and for the new story He has given you.

Walk daily with God at your side!

Starlight

Starlight…

The blind astronomer Edwin Frost of the Yerkes Observatory was nearing his death. “Doctor,” somebody whispered to the dying man, “are you afraid to die?” Frost smiled and shook his head, “I’ve seen too many stars to be afraid of the night.”

Most people think of the night as something negative, something of absence. But to an astronomer, night is the time of revelation, of mysteries, fullness, and blessings. It’s the night that reveals the stars.

So it’s a new way to look at the dark times of your life. They have their purpose. They reveal the blessings of God, His faithfulness, and even His stars. For the righteous shine as stars? When? At night.

For stars and astronomers, the night is the time of shining, and blessing. So don’t fear the dark times, the hard times, the “bad times” for it’s in the night when the stars shine most brightly.

So don’t focus on the dark, but focus on shining. And remember that it’s at night when God’s blessings and faithfulness also shine – and you’ve seen too many stars to be afraid of the night.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5

Today seek to focus, in every situation, not on the darkness, but on the light of God.

Walk daily with God at your side!

Haman’s Blessing

9 Oct

Haman’s Blessing…

Haman was an evil man. He breathed evil, schemed evil, committed evil. And yet because of Haman, Esther finally rose up to her calling. She stopped living a lie.

Because of Haman, Esther grew to become a truly great person, a woman of righteousness, one of the great saints of the Bible. Because of Haman, Esther finally became free to fulfill her calling.

Without Haman, all that would never have happened. What does that tell us? It tells us that even the worst things, the most evil people, the greatest calamities in your life, will be turned around for your good, for your blessing.

That problem, that crisis, that worry, that burden, that discouragement, those enemies, that hindrance, that opposition, that set back – don’t worry, but praise God anyway.

The promise is that even these will work out for your good. Start thanking God for that, in advance. For if Haman could work blessing in the life of Queen Esther, then that problem will certainly work blessing for yours.

So give thanks to God, because all your problems – they’re just Haman’s blessings.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

Thank and praise God as much as you can throughout your day – then you will have less time to worry.

Walk daily with God at your side!

Love always,

Upside-down Day

8 Oct

Upside-down Day…

George Washington had an army of people who didn’t know what they were doing, making America’s birth unlikely. With little provisions, they were a ragtag army fighting the most formidable military force in the world, the British.

Washington’s main strategy was keeping his army from fighting by running away. The British general ended up trapped by the sea, surrendering at Yorktown.

America won the war by an unlikely army of ragtag soldiers who spent time running away until everything turned around. That’s the way God works.

The Bible’s filled with people who would appear to be losers. Yet those lives and walks are turned around for victory. He has chosen the weak things to confound the strong.

Perhaps you feel like a failure, struggling with something for years, a sin, situation, compromised walk, and maybe losing battle after battle. God loves even turning that around — a weak walk around for victory.

Don’t look at your record or the past; it doesn’t mean anything to God! Look to Him and you’ll be like Gideon. Trust in His power and the Lord will turn it around. He delights in turning failure into victory, making the weak become strong.

And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson and Jephthah, about David and Samuel and the prophets, who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies. Hebrews 11:32-34

What area have you been struggling or striving in? Meditate on Zech 4:6 and apply it to that specific area.

Walk daily with God at your side!

The Snakebite Kit

7 Oct

The Snakebite Kit…

Psalm 58:4 says, “They have venom like the venom of a serpent, like a cobra.” Venom is injected through the snake’s teeth.

Once inside, it destroys the victims by hemorrhaging the blood vessels. The poison kills the prey. All the serpent needs is one good bite, and the venom does its work.

The Bible says the enemy is a serpent – one that has fangs and venom. The enemy works by seeking to bite and inject a lie into your heart. He’s the father of lies: God doesn’t love you; your life has no purpose; you have to live in sin, fear, depression and gloom; and you can’t get close to God.

His goal is to get lies into your system through wounds and hurt, tearing you apart emotionally and spiritually. You need to do something. You might have venom in your system right now, in your heart, maybe for years, crippling you.

Face it, confess it, deal with it, and renounce it. Get it out of your system, heart, soul, and life. Get that venom out and the Lord will give you healing and wholeness. It’s not an option. You have to get the venom out!

The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:56-58

Is there a place in your life or soul where you’ve been bitten, wounded, defiled by the enemy. Take that area, and apply the antidote, the grace, and love of God, to wash it away.

Walk daily with God at your side!

Love always,

Ed

Separated

6 Oct

Separated…

Hebrews 5:1 says, “For every high priest is taken from among men.” The Levites were taken from Israel. The priests, or kohanim, were taken from the Levites.

The High Priest was taken from the priests. Each was taken and was separated and that was key for their calling. The word holy, “kadosh” in Hebrew, implies being separated.

The Bible says if you’re “born again” you’re now a priest. That means you’re also taken from among men, not just chosen but separated.

That is key. If you want to fulfill your calling, you have to be separated. Not so much from specific people, though it can mean that, but from sin, the world, carnality and the flesh.

In the New Covenant, a priest could only fulfill his or her calling by separating oneself. You, as God’s priest, church, in the Bible means the called-out one, separated.

Fulfill your calling! Doors are going to open! Separate from the sin. Separate from the world. Separate from whatever you have to separate from.

Take yourself from among men that you may enter the presence of God. You’re called to be holy, “kadosh”, separated – a priest unto God taken from among men.

What if he did this to make the riches of his glory known to the objects of his mercy, whom he prepared in advance for glory— Romans 9:23

What has hindered or even distracted you from God’s calling on your life? Come out from that today.

Walk daily with God at your side!

Love always,

Receiving The Oracles

4 Oct

Receiving The Oracles…

On the steep lower slope of Mt. Parnassus over the Corinthian Gulf stood the Temple of Apollo. In the rear of the temple was the Oracle of Delphi.

She would drink from a consecrated spring, then chew on laurel leaves, then enter an abnormal state and speak in unintelligible ranting. People would come from all over the ancient world seeking divine counsel.

We have something greater than the Oracle of Delphi. We have the living oracles of God. It’s the Scripture. The Bible is actually filled with the very oracles of heaven.

Every verse is filled with divine wisdom. It has everything you need to give you guidance of heaven and find God’s will for your life – to marry the right one, find success, peace, joy and become victorious, whatever you need.

You don’t have to travel thousands of miles by land and sea to find some stoned out-of-her-mind snake lady in mid-life crisis to tell you something that is worth nothing.

You have the very oracles of the living God right in your home, right at your fingertips. All you have to do is open and read it.

Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed. He made known his ways to Moses, his deeds to the people of Israel:The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. Psalm 103:1-8

Open the Bible, find a word from God for your life, an oracle from God to you. Now put it into action today.

Walk daily with God at your side!

Love always,

The Predestined Dice

3 Oct

The Predestined Dice…

The casting of lots in the Bible is a manifestation of the principle of chance, the rolling of the dice, randomness, as if everything is out of control.

Life often seems like that, out of control, happening by chance. And you wonder where God is in all of it. When Jesus was crucified, the Roman soldiers cast lots for His garments.

They cast lots, the principle of chance, everything out of control. And that is what it looked like. Jesus is being crucified, the Son of God is being killed, evil is triumphing and good is being crushed.

Where’s God in all this? The amazing thing is, even the casting of those lots was part of God’s plan. It had been prophesied a thousand years before in Psalm 22:18 “They cast lots for my garments.”

So too for your life. Even when things look out of control, and you can’t see any purpose, know that there’s nothing out of control. God will cause all things to work together for your good. For His hand of love is there, even in those problems, just as in the casting of the lots.

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Colossians 3:15

Take an area of your life where you don’t or have never seen the “why” or reason. Lift it up to God and thank Him for it, that He has a reason for good, even when you don’t see it.

Walk daily with God at your side!

Love always,

Ed

The Dayenu Heart

2 Oct

The Dayenu Heart…

On Passover a key Hebrew word is proclaimed – “Dayenu”. Dayenu means “It would have been enough”.

The Jewish people proclaim “Had He just taken us out of Egypt but not led us to the Promised Land, “Dayenu!” “It would have been enough.”

A lot of people live their lives frustrated because they never have enough, they always want more. That includes believers. But the secret of joy and contentment is not in getting more.

The secret is in “Dayenu” – “It would have been enough.” It doesn’t matter how much you have, if your heart requires more, you’ll never be happy.

But if you have a dayenu heart, a heart that says, “It’s enough.. it’s more than enough”, then you’ll have joy in everything. If you’re saved, you have the riches of heaven, salvation from hell, eternal life, and the love of God unspeakable and forever.

That’s “Dayenu”. Open the eyes of your heart to thank God for how blessed you are – in fact, more than blessed, more than rich, more than wonderful. For if He had only saved you from hell… “Dayenu!” Everything else is icing on the cake… Dayenu!

All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God. Deuteronomy 28:2

Write down on a piece of paper – blessings in your life. And lift it to the Lord with a “Dayenu” – that if God gave you nothing more, you would be blessed!

Walk daily with God at your side!

Love always,

Ed
